Why website speed matters for small businesses

A slow site loses visitors before they see what you offer. Here is what slows sites down and what to fix first.

People leave slow pages

Most visitors arrive on a phone, often on mobile data. If the page takes too long to show anything, many of them go back and pick the next result. You never hear from them, so the loss is invisible.

Google also looks at loading speed and stability through its Core Web Vitals. A fast page will not rank on speed alone, but a slow one starts behind.

What usually slows a site down

Huge photos straight from a camera or phone. Page builders that load scripts for features you never use. Cheap shared hosting far from your customers. Too many plugins, chat widgets and tracking tags stacked on top of each other.

What to fix first

Resize and compress images, and serve modern formats like WebP. Remove plugins and scripts you do not need. Put the site on hosting that serves pages from close to your visitors. Then test it on a real phone, not only on your laptop.
